Crackle painting technique:
Crackle painting produces a vintage finish and adds to the appearance of the object. This technique of crackle painting has two methods to bring cracks over the surface. The only difference in the approach is the application process. To avoid the surface from ruining, proper method is to be followed. The most basic thing you must remember while applying the crackling agent is to see that the foundation is completely dry. A base color should be applied before the application of the crackling medium. You should not change the direction of the brush while painting and do not brush the same spot twice. If you want thin and small cracks then apply a thin coat over the base paint and if you want to give your art large cracks then apply thick coat of the crackling medium. You should apply the crackle paint in one direction and must not overlap. The brushing of the surface again will result in a dragged appearance, as the cracks will disappear. You cannot repair this dragged surface until you start fresh. You should make sure that the crackle is completely dry before applying the top coat of the paint. The cracks will start appearing when the top coat dries.
Crackle paint colors:
Crackle painting uses two colors to bring the desired crackled finish. The crackle paint is applied over a base color coat, followed by the application of the topmost color coat. When the top coat of the color dries, the crackle paint causes it to crack and the base color can be seen through the cracks. The complementary colors provide great contrast texture to the paint. They are the opposite colors and tend to provide maximum contrast. The other category is the harmonious colors. They are close in the color wheel and blend with each other. The monochromatic colors are the different tones of the same color. The crackled finish appears to be a fresh paint over a faded one. It gives a weathered look to the surface. The metallic paints like silver, gold, bronze or copper give a rich and antique look to the object. You can choose any color combination of your choice to match the surroundings or to complement your house.
Crackle paint is preferred when you need to give your belongings a touch of age, ebony and style. You have the freedom to experiment with textures, patterns and art in your own unique way.
